The McCormack's are a 7th generation ranching family. Doug McCormack started River Lane Acres (RLA - prefix) at the home farm in Cookstown, Ontario. While raising Hereford cows, his bull suffered an injury and needed to be replaced. So he leased a polled, full blood Simmental bull from a neighbor. When the first calf crop hit the ground he was hooked. The calves were vigorous, big topped and just plain good.  After that, he began to focus on raising good, polled, fullblood genetics. In 1999, he began to realign his focus to the solid red and black Simmental cattle.

In 1996, son Scott sold his portion of the full blood cows. In 2001, he moved west to Saskatchewan (something about a girl he met at Agribition…..) In 2002, Scott married Carolyn Olson of Hanley, Saskatchewan. They now have four beautiful children - Bailey, Sydney, Darby and Tanner. In 2003, they took over Carolyn's dad's herd of Maine-Anjou cows, Green Acres Maine Anjou.  Lightning Strike Cattle Co. was formed and they continue to raise quality Maine-Anjou purebred cattle and have added to their numbers.

In 2006, McCormack Family Ranch was formed when Doug and Scott & Carolyn relocated to Grenfell, Saskatchewan - 125 kms east of Regina on Hwy#1. They currently run 280 head of purebred red and black Simmental and purebred Maine-Anjou cattle and crop/hay 2500 acres. The Maine-Anjou cattle still carry the LSCC prefix. Second Annual Bull Sale - Genetic Destination Annual Bull Sale will be held on March 17, 2012 at Heartland Livestock, Regina, SK. In 2009, MFR held its 1st Annual Fall Production Sale on the farm.
